One West Auckland club, men's and women's, training and playing together — from first-timers to New Zealand representatives.
Wildcats Lacrosse brings together West Auckland's men's and women's lacrosse clubs under a single name — sharing training nights, grounds, and a mission to grow the game.
The men's side traces back to 2002, founded by Andrew and James Beetham as a small West Auckland club offering lacrosse to men of every age and ability. Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, and the club exists to champion its growth locally — breaking down the financial and social barriers that keep young men from picking up a stick, with safety gear supplied and coaching led by current and former NZ representative players.
The women's side, Westforce Wildcats, was incorporated in 2007 out of Blockhouse Bay and competes in the Auckland Lacrosse Association Women's Summer League. It's built on community as much as competition — themed club dinners, dress-up parties, and as much room for umpires, photographers and committee members as for players. Between the two clubs, several members have gone on to represent Auckland and New Zealand.
The two clubs now train together, sharing grounds, coaching depth and a badge — while keeping their own leagues, teams and traditions.
Whichever team you land on, you'll train alongside every other Wildcat — this is one club playing across three competitions.
